Andre Bassiri
Andre Bassiri was born and raised in Singapore, but his field hockey career did not begin until attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012. Having played goalkeeper in other sports, Andre joined the University of Illinois Club Field Hockey Team as a walk-on goalkeeper his senior year (2016).
After graduating, Andre continued his field hockey career playing for the Miami Surf Field Hockey Club (FHC). With the Surf, he became the starting goalkeeper within a year and helped them to place 1st in their hometown tournament, the Miami Cup. Andre would go on to compete in the US Adult Men’s Nationals tournament each year as a member of the Surf, winning overall tournament MVP in 2021. He continues to play for the Miami Surf FHC.
In Colorado, Andre continued his field hockey career by beginning as a volunteer coach for the CU Boulder Club Field Hockey team, training other goalkeepers. Within a year, he was made Assistant Coach, and as of the 2022 season, he is now the Head Coach of the team.
At an international level, Andre began playing for the Puerto Rico National Field Hockey team in 2021. That year he traveled to Mexico and Bermuda to compete in the Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) Qualifiers. In Bermuda, he helped the team qualify for the CAC Games in 2023 where he will be representing Team Puerto Rico, and recorded his first two caps at the international level.
Outside of coaching and playing Field Hockey, Andre lives in Denver and enjoys camping, hobby time, and rollerblading around the city.
