Colorado Bears Field Hockey Club

Middle School

Overview

The Colorado Bears Field Hockey Club - Denver Site welcomes over 100 middle school players each year, offering opportunities to develop their skills throughout the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons. Whether you're new to field hockey or looking to take your game to the next level, we have a program for you!

Fall Season: Players without a school team can join us in our competitive Interscholastic Middle School Program, where we compete against St. Mary's, Kent Denver, Colorado Academy, Graland, and the Boulder Bears. This program provides structured gameplay experience while fostering teamwork and skill development.

Winter & Spring Seasons: Our Rising Stars Program offers weekly skills sessions and Playdays, which are mini tournament style game days designed for players to apply their skills in a game setting against local competition and their peers. This program is perfect for those looking to refine their technique in a fun and supportive environment. Winter and Spring Leagues are also available – designed for players with prior field hockey experience who are ready for structured, competitive game play.

Advanced Skills Training: We will once again be offering Advanced Skills Training during the Spring Season. This is for intermediate and advanced players only. These sessions provide hands-on technical training with smaller coach-to-player ratios, focusing on advanced techniques such as:

  • 3D skills
  • Backhands & aerials
  • Specialized shooting techniques

Looking for more competition? If you’re ready to take the next step, consider trying out for one of our Travel Teams, which offer the highest-level competition, elite training, and the opportunity to travel around the country competing against other out of state club teams.

Please see below for each program’s registration information.

Rising Stars Winter Program (Dec 2025 - Mar 2026)

We are excited to kick off our Rising Stars Program for our 2025-2026 Winter Season! The program is designed for players who want to grow their skills in a structured and positive training environment. Please review the program options before registering.

The goal of the program is to give players lots of touches on the ball and focus on fundamental skill development (think passing, receiving, block tackles, double teams, flicks on cage, etc)... and small sided games. The great thing about Indoor Field Hockey is games are limited to 5v5 so players get tons of touches on the ball. The Winter Season will also consist of one Scrimmage Day (the Holiday Jamboree) and one Playday (Polar Bear Playday) for a fun-filled day of tournament style games with prizes and podium finishes!

  • FAQ

What group does my daughter belong to?

The Middle School Beginners group is designed for 6th and 7th-graders who are new to the sport or are playing for the first time this fall season. Coaches will focus on developing fundamental skills and applying them in game-play situations.

The Middle School Intermediate group is for players in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade who have a few years of experience. This program builds on fundamental skills and challenges players to increase their pace of play while maintaining accuracy and strong decision-making.

The Middle School Advanced group is for players with several years of experience. These athletes can already perform all fundamental skills under pressure and are ready to learn advanced techniques and tactics that prepare them for play at the next level.

What team does my daughter belong to?

Once you’ve determined which skill group is the best fit for your daughter, you can register for any team within that group that still has roster spots available. We aim to keep the teams within each skill group relatively even and fair, with no major skill differences between them.

If you’re signing up with a friend, we recommend joining the same team so you can play together throughout the season.

Advanced Skills - SPRING ONLY!

Stay tuned for the Advanced Skills program details and dates for the Spring 2026 Season! Advanced Skills is a series of five, 75 minute training sessions, where players will learn technical skills like: aerials, strokes, advanced shooting techniques, backhands, 3D elimination skills, etc. This program will offer a smaller player to coaching ratio so players can be guided through learning these new technical skills. This program is for intermediate through advanced players.
